Plasma Water Table Journey #4

Today was leg day, no I’m not talking about a workout routine. I wanted to get a comfortable height for me when I’m using the plasma water table. I figured 26 1/4″ was a good leg length. That coupled with 3 1/4″ casters and another 1/2″ for the top frame and castor plates to give me 30″. The castors I’m getting can adjust in height up to 3/8″. Not that I want more height, I just thought it was cool incase I wanted to level the table.

I started out beveling the outer sides of the tubes I got from a local metal CNC company for free. They were in very small sections so I had to weld them together to get the length I need to cut them. This was to prep for welding.

I wanted to make sure they were inline and flat with each other. So I used my table saw because I knew it was dead flat and my fence was straight too. So I clamped the tubes to the table and fence to get a good weld on one side.

I then took it to my welding table and welded all the sides of both tubes. If you wanted to see what a newbie weld looks like, look no further.

Basically I just followed the bevel grove and made several passes until it was flush with the surface. After that, I flap wheeled all the welds smooth.

Close up view for you.

I took the tubes and measured out the 26 1/4″ and cut them both with the Evolution S380-CPS. There were uneven ends on each tube so I cut on those sides to get both at 90°.

Now that I had the length that I wanted, I clamped them to my welding table and measured out 2″ on center and clamped one of the slats from the table on the tube. Making sure of the offset of my plasma torch tip. Using the PrimeWeld CUT60, I cut both tubes in half to give me four good strong legs.

Speaking of the torch tips, I ordered the PrimeWeld Drag Tips and they work really well!

As you saw in the previous photo, the plasma cut edges were rough. So I flap wheeled them smooth.

It was a productive day and I stopped there. I’m going to receive the casters sometime tomorrow. I plan on installing the casters. Who knows, I may even weld the legs as well. We shall see. Thank you for checking in. Have a great day!

  1. Casters ended up being only one caster. Not sure why they would ship just one caster. But I have ordered some more casters and they should be here as late as Sept 6th. Bummer because I wanted to finish this thing sooner……

  2. Casters came in today! Work will commence tomorrow! The whole things may just be done! We shall see……
